TRYING TO HEAR WITH SO MUCH NOISE

Well, we've been living here for a year and a half. Cannot believe time has gone by so fast. I am still always amazed at how the Lord has trusted us and used us in this capacity. We are living on the foreign mission field. We've been serving now in our smaller village for over 6 months. We are now facing many new issues that have cause us to wonder what the Lord's plans are.

I have also been bombarded with so many thoughts about a previous location that we have served. I don't know what the Lord is wanting us to do. Is He wanting us to move back and pursue this? Is He wanting us to continue where we are. Lord...I need you now. I cannot do this on my own. I need your guiding hands upon me and to show me. I don't want to make the wrong decision. Lord help me.

The War Within

Have you ever felt like you literally had a war going on side of you?

We have been living in this new place for a little over a year now. I am at war with my flesh and spirit. My heart and soul belongs to the Lord Jesus. I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior when I was young. Once I realized the price He paid for my sins and the free gift He was offering of eternally life...the only thing I could do was to receive the gift and live my life for Him.

I find myself here in this place with an all out war going on inside. My flesh wants to pack up and leave in a heartbeat. If I was able to, I would have my bags packed in 30 minutes!  I want to return to my friends and family and my own culture. I want to feel comfortable in my own home. I want to be able to walk down my street without feeling alone.
But my heart and soul are doing their best to follow the Lord. He has called us to serve in this place and share the great news of Salvation. Share the great news of what Jesus has done for them. But OH how I wish I could go home. Go back to serving the Lord in a church and with familiar faces and near family. How I wish I could have friends and speak in my heart language every day. How I desire to not feel so alone and always being stared at as if I had some type of plague or something.

Lord Jesus, I need you! Every hour I need you. Lord, help me to conquer this war within. Help me to stand firm and fight. Help me to finish this task you've called me to do. Help me to break through this "mood" or stinky attitude I have. I want to reflect your love and grace. I want to pour out fruits of the spirit. May my heart and soul overpower my flesh. May your Spirit reign in my life.

May you walk in His grace and confidence today. Let us all live with boldness for His Kingdom's sake!!

Living in a New Culture

Well...we've been here for 275 days now. Life on the mission field has not really been what I thought it would be. So many expectations that have fallen through and so many surprises that have opened my eyes even wider.
This first year my family and I are in language training. We go to language classes every day for 4 hours a day. By the time our classes end each day, our brains are fried. Blah! We can't think in English or Spanish. We just feel kind of numb.

I feel like I needed to write some today because of the way I've been feeling. Since we've been here I've felt like I've been on an emotional roller coaster. I fight days where I feel like I absolutely HATE it here and want to move back home. And then other days where I'm so thankful and blessed that the Lord is using us here. What a chaotic battle of the mind!! Some say, "just go back home, you've lasted longer than I would have." Other say, "stick it out, you can do it." But in reality, it's not so much about finishing or leaving, it's ALL about being obedient to our King, our Lord and Savior. It's about honoring Him and furthering His Kingdom. If it were up to us, we probably wouldn't have even came. But the fact is that He placed a calling on our life and we want to be obedient.

If you are reading this and facing problems and rough and tough situations in life...stick it out for the reason that He called you to do it. Know that He will walk with you through it. If He's called you to do it, He will be with you through ALL of it. Stand strong and fight the good fight.

I have to always remind myself...this small little time is NOTHING compared to eternity. Remember that some are headed for an eternity apart from Christ and apart from ALL that's good and great. It's worth it!! Jesus...it's all for you!!!!

TRYING TO STAY ABOVE THE WATER

Swimming has always been a favorite activity for my family every since I was a child. I can remember going to the lake for the day, going to some friend's and family's homes that have pools, and playing in the creek.
I love to stay under the water for a long time and search for things and try to find hidden treasures. Several times, I have found items that others have lost. Goggles, a ring, $5 bill, paddles to boats, and many other things. I like to dive deep and catch crawfish too. However, I have a fear of drowning. I am afraid that one day I will not be able to make it back up to the top. I'm afraid that something will grab my leg or hold me under.
Life can be like this at times too. Since my family and I have recently moved to Ecuador, I have many days where I feel like something is pulling me under. It is my heart's desire to serve the Lord as faithfully as I can. But I have to admit...coming to live in this culture has been challenging to say the least.
I have great days when I'm so thankful the Lord called us to serve here. What an experience for us all right? I mean, we are getting to learn a new language, getting to see the sights and beautiful mountains, and meeting some very nice people. You would think I wouldn't have a thing in the world to complain about or be ungrateful about. But to be brutally honest...there are days when I'm ready to give up and throw in the towel. I want OUT of the water. I want out of this game. I want out of this place. There are days when I literally hate being here. I hate the fact that I am constantly on alert, making sure my children are safe, my belongings are not getting stolen, that I a safe while walking down this crazy city sidewalk. This culture is SO different from the culture that I grew up in.
I am an old, country boy from Big Cabin, Oklahoma. Many of you probably have never even heard of it. But I think several of you might have passed through it on the turnpike heading north toward Missouri or Illinois or somewhere while going through Oklahoma. But I grew up in a small community. I grew up living in the country where we had a huge back yard, horses to ride, dogs and cats, cows across the street, deer to hunt when we needed food, etc. I loved my childhood. Going from that to living in a huge city with like 3 million people, hardly any places with grass, the trees are scarce, horns always honking, concrete everywhere, and smog from all the buses. That gets old really fast.
I know, without a doubt, that the Lord has called us here. I know that many have experience the same types of issues that I am facing. We were even warned and trained for how to handle these things before we came. But I have to say, it is so much harder than I ever thought it would be.

So...how to I stay above the water day in and day out? How do I keep on fighting when I feel like there is nothing left to fight with. The Lord is still my Savior, but I feel like even my relationship with Him is kind of stale right now. I think this time of year with all the holidays are not helping the situation either. We've been approved to go home for the holidays, but I'm not sure that's the best thing. Maybe it would be good for us to visit family. It might make things worse. Plus, we don't have the money to go anyway. The Lord would have to provide that if we are to go. Who knows? Only He knows what's best.
I'm writing this today as an attempt to get out some of my feelings and try to get some understanding. Maybe someone out there that reads this will have some words of wisdom. Maybe someone out there will know what I'm feeling and how to help me. Maybe the Lord will send some encouragement or answers that I feel like we need.

Until then...I'll keep treading and trying to catch my breath when I can.

Answering the Call

Well, that was a rough day yesterday. Yesterday, Sunday morning, we shared with our students and the congregation about the Lord calling us to serve on the mission field. One of the hardest things I've ever had to do. When the ministry and things are going so well, we love our church family and community, and not wanting to leave our family and friends...it's rough to announce you're leaving it. Selfishly we don't want to leave. We love it here. We love everything about our ministry, our church, our community. But...we must be obedient to the call that the Lord has placed on our lives.

What do you do when the Lord begins to speak to your heart about something? When you open your Bibles and spend time in prayer with Him, as He begins to soften your heart or pull your heart into a certain direction, what do you do?

Isaiah 55:8-9
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

There have been many plans and desires in my life that I hoped for and wanted. Many of those plans have came true and many have not. I've learned to TRUST in my Lord and Savior. I've learned to listen to His gently whisper and hear when He speaks. I am a work in progress though. Not perfect, but doing my best.
I've learned that His ways and plans for my life are FAR beyond what I could ever imagine or dream up. My hope and prayer is that each day of life He gives to me that I make the most of it and not live it for myself, but for His name sake.

My encouragement to those that might read this some day is to answer the call He puts on your life. He will call you to do amazing and wonderful things. Trust Him. Listen for His voice in every and all circumstances of life. He already knows what you might go through, He already knows the possible outcomes, He already knows how you might feel or think about whatever it is, so just say Yes Lord, I'm listening and I will say or do whatever you call me to do.

Growing Spiritually

If you have a relationship with Jesus Christ, do you desire to grow as a Christian?
To achieve success in a race, we must work out and practice and prepare. Much like in life, if we want to win and have the strength and preparedness to overcome our temptations and struggles, we must practice and grow as a believer.

This was from a devotional I recently read.

In Philippians 2:13-14, Paul says that the Christian life is a partnership involving God and you. God works in you to motivate you to desire to fulfill His purposes. Spiritual growth begins with God. God works in you before He can work through you.
The English word “energy” comes from the word translated “work” in verse 13. God’s divine energy is at work in you and through you. When you gave your life to Jesus, your eternal destiny was altered, a radical reorientation of priorities occurred, life took on a new purpose, and the Holy Spirit took up residence. But rather than providing instant liberation from every bad habit or character flaw you have ever possessed, what took place was more like the landing of an army on an island to establish a beachhead. It would take time for the army to root out the enemy. Likewise, it will take time for God to conquer your old, bad habits and flawed character traits.
Once God works in you, then you grow spiritually as you “work out” or “work to full completion” the traits God has instilled in you. When Paul writes, “work out your salvation” (verse 12), he is talking about a spiritual workout. What God has put in you requires time and training to work out. Spiritual growth necessitates ordering your life around the disciplines of prayer, solitude, Bible reading, worship, giving and serving. Allow God to work in you as you practice these disciplines, and you will see spiritual growth take place in your life.
Lord…help us to practice the disciplines that lead us to spiritual growth!!

The Power Is Within Us

For I can do NOTHING on my own. All that I do and accomplish for the Kingdom is because of the power of the Holy Spirit living in me. 2 Peter 1:3 says, "His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness." We cannot live this Christian life on our own. It is impossible! Sometimes I've fallen into the trap of believe that if I only read more of His Word, pray harder, do more for Him that I can do great things for the Kingdom. But in all reality...I can do NOTHING without him.
The RELATIONSHIP that I have with Him is where the power is found.  And how I treat that relationship is what determines how I grow or stay where I'm at. When we spend time with Him in prayer and bible study and obedience, that's where the power is found.  That is where we become more like Christ. And the coolest part about that, it's also where we get to experience true living. We see fruits of the spirit being lived out in our lives.  We see God do great things that we cannot even explain. He doesn't call us to be more Christ-like and then leave us out in the middle of the desert. He gives us His Spirit to fight against evil and to follow in obedience.
"Will God ever ask you to do something you are not able to do? The answer is yes--all the time! It must be that way, for God's glory and kingdom. If we function according to our ability alone, we get the glory; if we function according to the power of the Spirit within us, God gets the glory. He wants to reveal Himself to a watching world." ~Henry Blackaby

Let the Lord be revealed in our lives today!!

Does your LIFE sing?

What consumes your mind from the time you wake up until the time you lay your head down on the pillow? Have you ever really stopped to think about all the things that cross your mind in a day?
Think about it for just a minute...
...Am I awake on time? ...What clothes should I wear? ...What time do I need to leave? ...What do I feel like eating for breakfast? Should I do my Bible Study now or later?  ...Did I grab everything I need before I walk out of this door? ...Do I have my keys? All the thoughts of seeings as you drive to work. What are my priorities for this day? ...What comes first and what needs to be done before I leave today? ...What's for lunch?  All the thoughts of business and work related tasks.  People you talk to and their stories. ...Did I finish everything that MUST be done today? ...Do I have everything I need to take home with me?  ...What's for dinner? ...What's on our schedule for tonight? ...Ballgames? ...Work around the house? ...Event or function? ...Did I spend time with my family? ...Did I show them and tell them that I love them today? ...Did I finish all my things around the house that needed to be done? ...Did I return all my phone calls and texts I was suppose to respond to today? ON and ON and ON!

Our minds can be FULL of thoughts in just one day. But the big question is... Who are we letting control our thoughts?
The Bible says in Psalm 119:9-11, "How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands.  I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you."
Our purpose on this earth is NOT to simply live day to day just to get by.  Our God, Our Creator has designed us for bigger things.  He wants to use us EACH day to further His Kingdom.  In my own life, each morning, I am trying to wake up and the very first thing I am trying to think on is, "LORD, thank your for the rest you gave me.  Thanks for this brand new day. How do you want to use me today? What on YOUR agenda for me today."

When we find ourselves just going through day after day just to survive...that's not the life God intended for us.  He wants our life to sing.
For those that have began a relationship with Jesus Christ and you have trust Him to be the ruler and guide of your life...realize that our old self and old ways are gone.  Live each day with a fresh lease on life.  Realizing that your Creator purposed you to great things EACH day.  When you wake up let your attitude sing a song of praise to our King. Let your attitude at work and around your family sing a song of love and thanksgiving. Let your life sing today!! :)

Let's Be Real

There many people in this world that claim to be a Christian. They claim to have prayed a prayer or walked down to the front of a church and they have caused many people to be confused on what it truly means to be a Christian/Follower of Jesus Christ. Now this is by no means pointing fingers at just you. If you take offense to this, that's between you and the Lord. Don't shoot the messenger.

I am by no means perfect. I make my fair share of mistakes. God knows them all. But each new day, I'm growing closer and closer to the Lord and I'm discovering more about Him and about following Him. My heart is heavy today because I believe there are so many people out there that honestly believe they are going to heaven because they "prayed the prayer". Yet their life is FAR from following and pursuing God. This is not a one time deal. Daily we are to make the choice...Yes, I am trusting in you Lord. There is NOTHING in this world that will fill that God shape void in your life. The world will throw so many flashy things at you and try to get you to choose it to feel that need you have. Many of us over time have settled for casual Christianity. It's safe there. The world doesn't bother us if we are doing the same thing they are. (Drugs, alcohol, pornography, gossip, lusting, cheating, homosexuality, lying, hating, using the Lord's name as a curse word, laziness, selfishness, placing things [people, sports/hobbies, places, etc.] before the Lord. We little bits here and there enter our lives and before we know it, people cannot tell who are truly following the Lord and who are living just like this world.

Some people don't believe there is a God. Well ok. If they are right, then when I die, I will just be dead. Haven't lost anything.
But because I know there is, when we face death, there is going to be judgement. And who and how we follow while on this earth will determine where and how we spend eternity.
God will ask us...what did with do with my Son Jesus?
What will be your gift to God when we face Him?
A life well lived for His glory OR a collection of all your favorite things (pics from vacations? seashells? sports trophy? pile of movies?). All those things aren't bad, but they are if they come before your relationship with the Lord.

Each new day is a blessing. This day is not about you or me. It's about our Heavenly Father. About God. If every day you only wake up to go to school or go to work or seek pleasure...then what? We make money, we buy things, we travel...then what? we grow old, we settle down, we retire, we die...then what? Eternity. That's what.
When we began to look at our lives through an eternal perspective, things change. How we treat others, care for others, influence others. Our whole thought process changes.

This country is falling apart. And it needs people to stop living a casual Christian life. If you choose not to trust and follow the Lord, then don't claim to be a Christian. I pray you come to know Him! But If you are going to place the name Christian on your life...then please, seek after the Lord daily. Communicate with Him. He's calling all of us to rise up and stand firm on what we believe in. THE TRUTH HAS ALREADY BEEN SET. What's right and what's wrong has already been defined. What the Lord said was a sin, it's still a sin. The Lord does not change. He's the same yesterday, today, and forever. Just because society changes, doesn't mean the truth does. This is not a debate between Methodist, Baptist, Catholics, etc. Scripture is scripture. When you seek the Lord you will KNOW and understand what it says. He's not trying to hide anything from us. But when we take a scripture and try to twist it to make our current way of doing things correct, that's wrong. There is a reason why we feel guilty for doing certain things. The Lord is trying to tell us something.

My prayer is that those who read this needed to hear from the Lord today. Again, I am sharing what the Lord has laid on my heart with you today. If you are angry and want to talk to me about it, please personal message me. There is no need to start a war about this if you agree or disagree.

God bless each one of you. This is the day the Lord has made for you. :)

A Christmas Blessing

O Lord, My soul is filled with joy!

Today as I sit and write this post my heart is filled with peace and joy.  I...ordinary old me...have a loving Savior.  I have a Father in Heaven who is watching out for me.  His Spirit guides my every move.  Sometimes I'm distracted and cannot hear Him.  Other times I hear Him perfectly clear and embrace the truth He is sharing with me. Right now the truth is that I am blessed beyond my comprehension.  While I sit here in my cozy office working away the time, anxiously waiting until I can leave the office to go be with my family, I realized that I am blessed. Today, this 24th of December 2012, is a day for all who are living. Everyone around the world are experiencing this day. And everyone's day is different. Some are facing persecution...being persecuted for trusting in our Savior Jesus.  Other are living in sin...not knowing the true peace or the reason for this season of celebration. Many are in deep depression because of financial bondage. Regardless of our life circumstances...we are blessed.  We are ALIVE and living and breathing because our creator, God the Father, chooses to give us this day.
It's easy to think about all the negative things in our world today.  It's easy to fall into the trap of making my problems and troubles seem HUGE.  When in all reality, my problems would be a welcomed problems for some who are facing even greater challenges.  I am so thankful for God sending His precious Son Jesus to save the world.  His Son, the Savior of the World, so freely gave His life so that I might be blessed and have eternal life.  He gave His life so that I might be alive and living this day. I am still alive and breathing because my God has a purpose for me.  My purpose is to KNOW Him and to make Him KNOWN.
This Christmas, I want my family to know Jesus.  I want my family to know that He is the reason we get together and love one another.  He gave His life, what more could He give? The gifts we give are not even comparable to the gift that God gave.  When God sent His Son Jesus, He knew that Jesus would pay the price so that the gift of eternal life could be offered to us. Out of all the gifts that you will receive this year, be a blessing to someone and share Jesus with them. Tell them all of who He is and all that He wants to be in there life. Be a Christmas Blessing! God bless you all this Christmas.

A Singing Soul

This morning started off to an early start.  I woke up at 5:30AM to go and drive a bus for the school.  It was still dark outside and kind of cool.  I arrived and the bus barn and greeted the few that were waiting to leave the school, grabbed my keys to Bus #2 and headed out to the bus.  I checked everything over and made sure it was good to go.  I waited for the bus to warm up a bit and then for my departure time. As I was waiting I just began to talk with my Father.  "God, this is going to be a great day.  Let me be a blessing to these children as they get on this bus today."

The route began and I picked up the first 2 students.  I asked one of them to help guide me on this route because I had never driven this route before.  So this 10th grade boy said he'd help me.  He did a great job and I arrived at the school to drop off the students safe and sound.

After the route I headed to my office to spend time with the Lord.  I've been reading in Hosea and it has really been grabbing my mind and heart.  Even though it is hard to understand, with the study helps, I am understand what's going on.  The people of Israel were still disobeying God and still trying to do things on their own.  God was trying to get their attention, but they kept refusing and giving their sacrifices and worship to their man made idol, Baal. I finished the book of Hosea today and began to write in my journal.  I was writing all that I had understood and learned and expressing to God my love and thankfulness for all that He's done.  As I wrote the words, "You are the Only LIVING God..." The presence of the Lord came upon me.  I was speechless and awestruck with wonder of my God.  I began to weep.  Suddenly it hit me.  This is the God of Moses, the God of many great people in all history. This is MY God.  He speaks to me.  He hears me when I call Him.  WOW!!!!! I was overwhelmed with joy and amazement at His presence.  The lyrics to an old hymn began to flood my heart.

O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!

How GREAT my God truly is!!  Words cannot describe how my heart fills this very moment.  There are no words in the human language to describe how I feel about my King, MY GOD and Savior.

Wherever you are at today in your walk with God.  Know that He is alive and real.  He loves you and wants what is best for you.  Just as He spoke over and over to the people of Israel, wanting them to realize that He was their provider and wanted them to return to Him, He may be calling you to do the same.  Worship your King today!  Give Honor and Glory to your King today!  Let your heart and soul sing out to Him today!! <><

Dreams

Do you ever dream?  I know everyone probably dreams at night or while they are sleeping. But I mean do you every dream that certain things in your life would be a certain way?

I have a dream.  Wow, that sounds familiar.  Never heard that before. :)

No serious.  I have a dream.  I dream about having a Student Ministry where students are so on fire for the Lord and it's the talk of the town.  Everyone is talking about the students and how they serve one another.  Lost students come in and other students that know Jesus get to lead them into a relationship with Him.  There is no students that judge each other.  They all get along and love each other.  The student ministry is known at the school for being a place where anyone of any gender, race, ethnicity can come and feel accepted and loved.  That's my dream.

Sometimes I wish that I could literally paint a mental picture for them to see what life would be like if they were completely sold out for Jesus.  If they gave up their desires of being popular or fitting in with the "in crowd" how awesome things could be.

O Lord, I pray for guidance.  Let it NEVER be about me or my plans but always about You.  I pray for adult men and women to love You with their whole hearts.  I pray for the parents of the students to grow up and be the parents that you are calling them to be.  I pray for Moms and Dads to be the spiritual leaders in their homes that you want them to be.  I pray for the students that do know you to have a deep compassion for others.  Lord hear my prayer.  I love you Father!

What do you dream about?

Comfortable

Comfortable.  That's a comforting word, huh.  Just thinking about the word makes me immediately think of things that give me comfort.  Lazy boy recliner, hammock with a nice cool breeze, etc.

But today I am thinking about comfortable in a totally different way.  Comfortable can sometimes get us into trouble.  Comfortable can sometimes cause us to become lazy or complacent in our spiritual lives.  It's VERY difficult at times to get away from our comfortable things when God calls us to do something that is out of our comfort zones.  Do you have a comfort zone?  Of course you do.  Everyone does.  We all have comfort zones.  We know our limits to the edge of that zone.  We know things that try to break into our zones.  We are the warriors of keeping our life within that zone.

What happens when the Lord speaks to our hearts and the plans He has for us challenge us to step out of or away from that comfort zone? Our initial reaction is to defend that zone and make excuses or reasons why we cannot leave that comfort zone.  But as the Spirit speaks to our hearts, we began to realize that we MUST step out of that comfort zone to be obedient to our King, our Lord, our Savior, our Father.

I can think of some many things that if the Lord called me to do, I would be stepping out of my comfort zone.  I feel like I am ready to step.  I feel like I am ready to leap.  I am learning each new day that He is my ultimate.  He's my provider, my guide and source of strength.  Whatever He wants me to do, we will give me what I need to get it done.

What about you? What is the Lord speaking to your heart about right now that is challenging you to step out of your comfort zone?  Following the Lord won't always be comfortable.

Britt Nicole's Song, "Walk on the Water" sums this up.  The song says,

You look around
It's staring back at you
Another wave of doubt
Will it pull you under
You wonder

What if I'm overtaken
What if I never make it
What if no one's there?
Will you hear my prayer?

When you take that first step
Into the unknown
You know that he won't let you go

Chorus:
So what are you waiting for?
What do you have to lose?
Your insecurities try to alter you

You know you're made for more
So don't be afraid to move
Your faith is all
It takes and you can
Walk on the water too

Verse 2:
So get out
And let
Your fear fall to the ground
No time to waste
Don't wait
Don't you turn around and miss out
Everything you were made for
I know you're not sure
So you play it safe
Try to run away

If you take that first step
Into the unknown
He won't let you go

(chorus)

Bridge:
(step out)
Even when its storming
(step out)
Even when you're broken
(step out)
Even when your heart is telling you telling you to give up
(step out)
When your hope is stolen
(step out)
You can't see where you're going
You don't have to be afraid

Step out of comfortable and FOLLOW HIM today!  <><

Things

Wow.  It is so easy to fill out life up with a lot of THINGS.  Things that we love dearly.  Things that we enjoy.  Things that honestly have zero value.  Things tend to fill up our schedules and take our time.

I was reading a devotional the other day and it said, "We can do numerous things, but our main thing should be to make disciples."  After reading this I realized how truly important our life is.  We can get so easily distracted by "things" that really have no importance to making disciples.  Some might say, "stop being some 'holier than thou' type of person." But when it gets down to it...that's what we were created to do.  As the Word of God guides us each day, the truth in Matthew 28 tells us to 'go and make disciples'.

God has placed each one of us in very unique places.  He knows what is best for us.  I am learning each day that EVERYTHING in life comes down to knowing Jesus and making Him known to those that don't know Him.  He places me where He wants to use me. It is so hard to get a student to realize this truth.  It's hard to get a student to know that they are in "that class" or sitting in "that seat" for a reason and purpose.  Can you imagine life without all the "things" that Satan places before us?  Can you imagine waking up tomorrow and the ONLY "thing" on your plate to do is to stand before a perfect and holy God and worship Him?  Wait a minute...we can! :)

Each new day we can honor and worship our Lord and Savior no matter where we are, no matter how many tasks or things we have to do, Jesus can be the guide and front runner.  It takes us to surrender our EVERYTHING to Him and let Him guide us with one act of obedience at a time.  Time.  That's a whole other talk.  Time is so precious, but the reality is that we make time for whatever we want to make time for.  If we took the 24 hours in each day that the Lord gives to us and surrender them over to Him...wow...what a difference that would make.  That's what I'm trying to do each day.  Every moment of every day that I have breath, I want to give it to the Lord.  Even as I'm typing I'm praying that what I say on this blog is what someone needs to hear (including myself).  I am praying that you who read this will know that the most important relationship and "THING" of your life is your relationship with Jesus!  Nurture it! Feed it!  And let's see what happens. <><

Following

Over the past 10 years in student ministry I have seen the word "Christian" used to identify so many people that I wonder if people really even know the meaning.  I hear it used as people who go to church are called Christians.  The people who do good things are called Christians.  People who are in a biblical marriage are called Christians. Do people actually know what it truly means to be a Christian?

It's in every human to want to follow someone.  But our culture tells us not to follow anyone but to be ourselves. I have stopped using the word "Christian" so often.  When talking with our students about having a relationship with God I have began using the term being a "follower" of Jesus Christ.  I want our students to understand that when we are a follower of Christ, we are to be different from the world.  God's word tells us in Romans 12:2 not to conform to the pattern of this world.  This is a hard thing for people to do.  We so desperately desire relationships with others that we will just about do whatever it takes to make friends with those people.  Regardless if they are doing things or are apart of things that dishonor our Lord Jesus.  To be a follower of Jesus we mu deny our selfish desires.  OUR way will always get in the way of following Jesus.  Either we deny OUR ways or we deny Christ.  We must make a conscious choice every day to surrender OUR wants and OUR desires over to our guide and our Savior.  We let our Lord Jesus take control of the wheel and let him guide use through each day.
What do you want me to wear this morning Lord?
What food should I eat to make me healthy today?
Father, who should I sit by this morning?
What do you want me to say to him/her?
Should I do this or should I do that?

We ALWAYS need to be in communication with our Father.  I have heard many people say, "Pray without ceasing and you'll never cease to pray."  I love this because it is so true of our life with Christ.  If we are in constant communication with Him, we will not step out of that communication line.

So today...I make a choice to do my best to following my Lord and my Savior.  I am following!

Not Mine but His

It's so difficult each day to remember that this day is not your own.  The offering that we have to give to the Lord is the very LIFE that He gave to us.  With each new day there are many battles that I seem to face to give it ALL to the Lord.  So many times it is so much easier to do it my way and the way that would make me happier (so I think). Yet no matter what life throws at me, I constantly have to stop and say, "I am living for my King, not myself.  What would you have me do Lord? What would you have me say Father?"

Living for a King is no easy task.  Yet the rewards and blessings of serving a King are unexplainable.

I get the honor of teaching students about the Word of God.  I am a Student Pastor at Harbor Church in Oologah, Oklahoma.  It's pronounced (oo-luh-gah).  We hear some pretty funny pronunciations of this town.  But I get the privilege of sharing God's word with groups of students and watching the Lord work in their lives.

Each week as I prepare for the message I am constantly asking my Father what I should teach and how I should teach it.  I NEVER want to have my own agenda.  I only want to teach what He lays on my heart.  I am looking forward to tonight.  He has lay it on my heart to talk with the students about getting rid of idols.  We ALL have idols at times in our lives that sneak in on us and stick around for a while before we realize what they actually have become.  Anything can be an idol if it takes priority or place of our Lord and Savior.  Television, Sports, Family Time, etc.  Things that we spend A LOT of time doing can easily become an idol to us and we don't even realize it.

I challenge you today as I challenge myself.  Do a life inventory and see if there are any idols hanging around.  The Word of God says "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting," Psalm 139:23-24.  Sometimes we get all wrapped up in life and all the while God is trying to get us to slow down and take a look a few things.

As He has blessed us with this new day.  Let us fix our eyes on Him and surrender all we've got to our King!

Today versus Tomorrow

Wow...2009?  I cannot believe that I started this blog so long ago and I am just now returning to it. Ha!  That's crazy.

I am trying to get better at using technology to reach out and share the love of Christ is whatever way that I can.  I am no expert at this nor do I try to be.  I just want to KNOW Jesus and to make JESUS KNOWN.

I was reading my devotionals this morning and the Lord really spoke to my heart.  The title of one of the messages was TOMORROW.  It said that the word "tomorrow" was the most dangerous word.  Reasons being that most people, including myself, use that word to get out of something or to procrastinate.  We say, "O we'll do it later or tomorrow or the next day."  And then we never end up doing anything at all.  It went on to say that, "Today is the manna, the evidence of God's presence with us, a precious gift!"  I had to ask myself, "Do I really treat this day as a precious gift?"  I don't think I have been.  I think that I look at each day as a chore.  I have a list a things that I need, or so I think I need, to get accomplished and finished.  Then I check out after work and go home and spend time with my family.
This morning I think I got it.  I think the light bulb really came alive for me.  I have a purpose for this day.  I have a reason to be alive THIS day.  I am NOT guaranteed tomorrow.  My devotional said, "Yesterday is a cancelled check, tomorrow is a payment on loan.  TODAY is the only cash you have, so spend it wisely." Wow, what truth!!  I want to spend this day as if it were my last.  I know that's hard to do because I certainly wouldn't be at work if I knew it were my last.  But I have to give each moment of my time to the Lord.  Using my gifts and talents and skills to honor the Lord.
My prayer is that the Lord would be glorified in all the I say and do today.  I pray that my attitude be pleasing to Him. According to the Word of God, "May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to You Oh God."  God bless your day!
